I. Description of the Academic Discipline

Comparative Literary Studies is a complex, interdisciplinary academic discipline, essential component of the professional development of a philologist within the framework of global standards in human education.

This course focuses on mastering the scientific metalanguage and the most required research approach of comparative studies. It involves familiarizing students with both domestic and global traditions, achievements of comparative methodology, and deepening their understanding of the historical-literary process from the standpoint of modern comparative studies.

Considering the latest trends in comparative studies, the course covers its main branches, namely: the history of the origin and genesis of comparative literature; the theory and methodology of studying genetic-contact relationships; comparative typology across different textual levels; literature and globalization; imagological studies; translation as a form of intercultural contact.

 

II. Purpose and Objectives of the Educational Discipline

The purpose of the course is to equip students with the foundational principles of comparative literary studies theory, enabling them to apply its methods in analyzing works of art, conducting comparative typological studies, and teaching literature at secondary and higher educational levels.

To achieve this overarching goal, the course addresses the following specific objectives:

·       Provide a clear understanding of genetic and contact relationships.

·       Highlight the significance of comparative typology.

·       Explore the interplay between literature and other art forms.

·       Uncover aspects of imagology as a branch of comparative studies that elucidates the national imagery of different peoples in the context of their interactions with other ethnic groups and regions.
